More than 121.8 million online accounts were compromised globally between July and September 2026, TechRadar and The Guardian Nigeria News reported, citing research from Surfshark. This figure represents a 13.2 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. [1][2]
The United Kingdom experienced a 121.6 percent increase in leaked accounts during the third quarter of 2026, bringing its total to 5.8 million, TechRadar reported. This rise pushed the United Kingdom past France to become the most breached nation in Europe. [1]
Data breaches also rose sharply in Ukraine, where 2.6 million accounts were compromised within three months, TechRadar reported. The spike moved Ukraine from 47th place to 6th place globally. FTMQ Security reported earlier that cyberattacks targeted emergency alert mobile applications in Ukraine and Russia late Sunday, pushing fake notifications of an imminent nuclear threat to citizens. [1][6]
Most data breaches take place on server infrastructure rather than end user devices, TechRadar reported. Consequently, Virtual Private Network software cannot prevent account details from leaking when corporate servers are compromised. [1]
