OffSec released a free interactive lab in Proving Grounds Play on October 28, 2026, allowing security professionals to examine and defend against two critical vulnerabilities known as PHP2Shell. CyberSecurityNews reported that the hands-on lab covers the flaws designated as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619. [1]

The PHP2Shell flaws are memory safety vulnerabilities affecting PHP versions 5.4 through 8.5. According to Wikipedia, the security issues allow attackers to achieve remote code execution and gain remote control of website hosts. [3]

Researchers discovered the vulnerabilities with the assistance of artificial intelligence in August 2026, and details were publicly announced on October 20, 2026. Wikipedia states that the flaws were estimated to impact nearly 70 percent of websites, prompting emergency patches for PHP versions 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, and 8.5 the following day. [3]

As FTMQ Security reported earlier, critical remote code execution flaws frequently lead to rapid exploitation after public disclosure. CyberSecurityNews noted that OffSec designed the new lab environment specifically to give security teams practical exposure to these issues as AI-assisted research changes vulnerability discovery.
