Google has launched registration for its Registered App Stores Programme, allowing approved third party Android marketplaces to install software with one tap. The Hacker News, BigGo Finance, Digital Watch Observatory, Android Headlines, and PhoneWorld all reported that developers can now apply to join the initiative. BigGo Finance noted that one tap installations under this program will begin on December 1, 2026, for users outside the United States. [1][2][3][4][5]
Under the new system, approved alternative stores can bypass Android standard confirmation prompts during initial app installations. The Hacker News reported that these third party stores will also gain the ability to conduct background updates automatically. To obtain these privileges, participating marketplaces must meet specific identity verification standards set by Google. [1]
To maintain approval, store operators must submit their complete application catalogs to Google. According to The Hacker News, companies must also continuously send every new application and upcoming update to Google for ongoing inspection. [1]
Android software packages use the native APK file format, which enables direct redistribution of applications to end users across global mobile devices. Google operates as an American multinational technology corporation under its parent company, Alphabet Inc. [6][8]
