Meta suffers GitHub breach exposing corporate code and employee data

Hackers have accessed internal GitHub repositories belonging to Meta Platforms, stealing company source code and personal data. Security Boulevard and SecurityWeek both report that the security incident was detected several weeks ago after an outside group gained unauthorized entry using an employee's stolen credentials. Meta is notifying roughly 1,500 impacted individuals, according to SecurityWeek and CyberKendra. Most of the affected individuals are Meta employees located in the United States. Meta is offering credit monitoring services to those affected by the exposure. [2][8]

Meta's internal security team shut down the unauthorized access upon detection, SecurityWeek reported. The company brought in GitHub and law enforcement to assist with the investigation. Meta Platforms is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, and operates services including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. [2][9]
