German police have arrested a Russian national accused of belonging to a cybercrime group that launched a devastating cyberattack against Synnovis in 2024, DataBreaches.net reported. The compromised company provides pathology services to multiple London hospitals, and the resulting disruption contributed to the death of a patient. [1]

The incident severely disrupted blood testing services across several London healthcare facilities when systems were encrypted by the group. DataBreaches.net reported that the suspect played a key role in the ransomware gang responsible for the operational chaos caused at affected National Health Service sites. [1]

The attack occurs against the broader context of geopolitical tension, following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. That ongoing conflict has resulted in hundreds of thousands of military casualties and generated millions of refugees across Europe. [2]
