Attackers compromised the official email account of the CDU Heilbronn to launch a widespread phishing campaign on October 17, 2026, Rescana reported. The hackers used the legitimate email address to send fake event invitations to roughly 6,500 contacts. The recipients included the Chancellor, German government ministries, and security-related officials. [1]
According to Rescana, the phishing emails contained a malicious link designed to steal sensitive information. The primary objective of the campaign was to harvest victim credentials, including passwords and banking details. [1]
Supply chain attacks target less secure elements within an organization or network, including software, hardware, or distribution channels, to compromise high-value targets across the financial, energy, and government sectors. [2]
Law enforcement agencies and German federal security bodies, including the Federal Office for Information Security and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, are investigating the breach, Rescana reported. [1]
