Apple is replacing iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T that lose cellular connectivity after software updates failed to resolve the issue.

Apple will replace certain iPhone 18 Pro Max devices for free after users on AT&T experienced severe cellular connectivity failures, ZDNET Security and Bloomberg both reported. Affected devices lost cellular service, leaving them stuck in SOS mode and unable to place calls, send text messages, or access mobile data. [1][2][5]

AT&T initially advised impacted customers to install the iOS 27.0.1 software update immediately, warning that the outage could prevent emergency calls to 911, according to ZDNET Security. Although two software updates were released to address the glitch, ZDNET Security reported that these updates cannot repair smartphones that have already lost service. [1]

The iPhone 18 Pro Max was announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, during an event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The devices were subsequently released to the public on September 18, 2026. [7]

Owners of affected devices on the AT&T network must undergo a full hardware replacement provided by Apple to restore cellular connectivity, as reported by ZDNET Security, Forbes, and Bloomberg. [1][2][5]
